Looking for an easy way to get those coveted mermaid boho locks you see all over Pinterest and Instagram? Look no further, here is an easy how to guide for anyone desiring the perfect beach hair.
Start with a Clean Canvas
n order to reach the full mermaid potential of your hair, it is important to remove any buildup. Wash your hair and scalp thoroughly to remove any buildup and debris. It is recommended to use a gentle clarifying shampoo and finish with a hydrating conditioner.
Here are some of great options:
Innersense Organic Beauty Detox Hair Mask
Matrix Deep Clean Reset
Matrix Hydrating Conditioner
Prep your hair with Light Curl Cream & Oil
On damp hair, use a light curl cream or mouse. This will help the waves to hold in place.
You can use oil on your ends if you choose, as this will help dry ends to retain moisture and it will look healthier by the end of the style. Make sure to apply the oil on damp hair.
Product Recommendations:
Braid on Damp Hair
This is the most important part. The key is to braid your hair when it is damp. If you braid while it is soaking wet, the braid will take longer to set, and the waves will be looser. For more defined curls, make sure the braid is tight. If you prefer looser waves/curls on the other hand, braid with less tension.
If you want an overall wavy look from roots to ends, braid your hair in French braids on each side according to how you want to part your hair
Gently Unravel when Dry
If you choose to, you may blow dry the braids right before, but make sure to finish it on a cool setting. Cool air closes the hair cuticle which will allow the waves to hold better. Just make sure to braid in the direction of the hair cuticle to avoid unnecessary frizz and breakage. If you have a diffuser, use this as it will distribute the air more evenly.
As you unravel your braids, your gorgeous curls will start to come to life! This part is so satisfying.
Choose a Finish
If you want added texture and a more boho look, Finish off with a texture spray. Just spritz lightly all over your hair. A great texture spray is Kevin Murphy's Beach Resort Spray, you can only get this directly through their website or at a salon that carries Kevin Murphy.
Another wonderful option is Oribe’s famous Texture Spray, this is my personal favorite. This one is in aerosol form. Pro tip: Spray from the bottom into your hair- this adds volume and bounce and won’t weigh down your hair.
Bonus Tip: For a piecey surfer look, after the beach spray is misted, gently pull apart some curls away from each other.
If you choose to use hairspray, you can lightly finish it off with a light mist or you may even use a silkening gloss will give it extra shine.
Now you can enjoy your fresh, beachy locks!
